2. In what occasions can Seashell be used?

Seashell can be used in many outdoor activities such as sun & beach, water sports, water festival, snorkelling, diving , skiing and hot spring etc.

3. What does Seashell mean?

‧Seashell is a kind of underwater life with a hard shell for protection.
‧Here, we refer it to a hard shell / case used under water for the protection of delicate digital camera.

4. Why should I buy Seashell but not an original one (I)

‧There are so many camera models and the camera case is made to match the corresponding camera models, it is difficult for the shops to keep stock.
‧Sometimes the original camera cases are not released at the same time you buy the camera.
‧If you have an old camera model, you have very little chance to obtain a camera housing that matches your camera.

5. Why should I buy Seashell but not the original one (II)

‧Seashell is always in stock while the original one always have a long lead time that you cannot wait.
‧Your old waterproof camera case would not work with your new camera, but Seashell would.
‧However, we do recommend the customer to buy the original camera if it is available. It allows you to control all the functions of the camera.

6 . Why shouldn’t I buy a plastic bag camera case?

‧It doesn’t provide enough protection to your camera against impact while under water it is always a tough environment, the plastic bag case usually cannot go more than 10 meters
‧It cannot hold the camera in place and the lens will always stay on the side of the lens cavity of the plastic bagand block the view of the camera
‧If the camera lens return to the camera body, when you turn the camera on, the lens will be stuck and damaged
‧Difficult to grip
‧There are some water leak record

7. Why shouldn’t I buy a waterproof camera instead?

‧A good waterproof camera may cost a lot.
‧A cheap waterproof camera cannot give you picture quality.
‧You do not want to learn how to operate the camera again, when you are well familiar with your current camera.
‧You can change another Seashell if it is damaged, but to change another camera will cost you more.
‧You may not want to compromise to buy one for a single use.

8. Why shouldn’t I buy a low cost single use waterproof film camera instead?

‧It cannot go more than 3 meter.
‧It doesn’t give you picture quality
‧It doesn't provide digital format
‧High picture unit cost
‧The films in a film camera will be used up very fast but a 2GB SD card in a digital camera can store thousands of pictures.
.

9. I found my camera doesn’t fit Seashell. What should I do?
‧Always check the fitting sheet which comes along with each Seashell package or Seashell.hk for the compatible camera list.
‧Consult your dealer or Zear Corporation customer service if needed.
.

10 . There are a lot camera functions that I cannot use with the Seashell

‧Most functions are for advanced user but not for snap shooter. We would suggest you to use fully automatic mode “P mode”. Your camera is smart enough to make good picture at all times
‧Use fast shutter e.g. ISO800 or above and power saving mode, force the flash off, these are all that enough.

11 . I have a Panasonic Camera which uses a slide on/off switch. How can I turn the camera on or off?

‧Some camera may have a slide on/off switch or the on/off switch is not within the  “controllable range” of the Seashell. You may need to set the camera to power saving mode in order to save power for your camera. When you press the camera shutter, the camera will be activated again.
‧A camera in Power Saving Mode can be used for more than a week. You don’t have to worry the battery from running out.

12. How can I control the zoom lens of the camera?

‧No, you cannot and you do not need to because water itself is a telescopic lens, and it brings far image close, so you always need to control your camera at the widest angle, which is the default setting of most cameras.
‧The water can be unclear, if the distance becomes further, the picture become more unclear and sensitive to shaking.

13. I have a few cameras. Can I buy only one Seashell for all of them?

‧Yes, you can. However, you will need ten to fifteen minutes to re-configure the Seashell, you also need to carry out some adjustments and tests after the re-configuration.

14. Why can’t I use flash with Seashell?

‧Using flash under water always cause water reflection and it affects the picture quality.
‧Also, the Seashell is not designed to use with flash as it causes internal reflection of lightinside the Seashell body
‧We suggest you to use external lighting (e.g. video light) for photography under water if it is too dark.
‧Try to use high shutter speed instead e.g. ISO800 or above.
‧Seashell also provides the external lighting for its housings as an accessory. Check it out for SS-light Stayarm & Flashlight Pack .

15. The Seashell is bulky!

‧It is not bulky. In order to fit different types of camera, the size of Seashell should be large enough to accommodate a range of camera model. In fact Seashell is reasonably small.
‧When taking photos under water or in action, you need an easy-to-handle camera with a large shutter button. Seashell is your perfect choice. It is easy to hold, the buttons are easy to press and there are no fancy functions that you have to worry about.

16. I want to review the pictures I have just taken but Seashell doesn’t allow me to do so.

‧Yes, you can set your camera to auto review, which is to show your picture right after every picture taken.
‧However, we would suggest you to reserve as much memory space as you can in your camera, so you will be free to snap without hesitation and you can do the “picture deletion” after you have unloaded the camera from Seashell.

17. I have a Canon Powershot and a Sony Cybershot which cannot be used with Seashell. What should I do?

‧The SS-1 doesn’t fit Sony Cybershot and Canon Powershot, while SS-2 can.
‧There are over 1,000 camera models suitable for Seashell. They include Casio, Panasonic fx series, Canon IXY and IXUS series, Fuji, Pentax, GE, Sony W series and Nikon, etc. You can buy one at low cost but high quality or simply borrow one.
‧SS-2 fits Sony T series & some Olympus models.

18. Why shouldn’t I use the Seashell neck strap for diving?

‧It is dangerous to use neck strip as it may cause strangulation.
‧It is important to use simple and easy-to-handle equipment under water and Seashell is a good choice

19. Will Seashell float or sink?

‧Seashell will float on water at about 100 grams, so you will not lose Seashell
‧Some professional users may want to have a balanced floatation, then you may need to put some weight at the brace hole of the Seashell. Some people attach a handle or external flash with a positive weight to the brace hole, so it provides a balanced floatation
‧Optional counter weight will be available soon. It is a approx. 100 grams weight attached to the heel plate.

20 . Will the glass break?

‧The glass is made of tempered glass and it rarely breaks. If that happens, it may be caused by excessive external impact.
‧If it happens naturally, it will be covered by the warranty of Seashell, however the associated equipment, say camera will not be covered.

21. What is the front glass made of?
‧The front glass is made of tempered glass. It can withstand impact and high water pressure.
‧Glass is glass. It will be broken if excessive force is applied.
‧The two sides of the glass are AR (anti-reflection)-coated. It prevents the reflections especially from the camera and the water when you take the picture.

22. The window glass is rather large.

‧The lens must be large enough in order not to block the view of the camera, especially when the camera is always in wide angle mode for under water photo taking. Some of the water proof camera case or bag do not have this feature.

23. The lock seems rather stiff to me

‧The lock must be stiff or tough enough in order not to be opened by the user by mistake during use. One mistake will spoil all of you valuable pictures.

24. What is the Seashell patent design about?

‧The Seashell is the first of the hard waterproof camera case suitable for a wide range of camera models.
‧The Seashell has worldwide patent on the overall design, the shutter and on/off mechanism and the lock design.
‧It is well protected in China, Hong Kong, Japan, USA and all European countries.
‧Anybody who sell, use or manufacture a product infringing the patent is illegal.

25. What is the material Seashell made of? Is it rigid enough?

‧Seashell is made of high quality polycarbonate, the kind of material used to make CD or DVD.
‧It is very rigid against impact, water pressure and it is highly transparent. However, it is a kind of plastic, it may get scratched.
‧Never use 3M Scotchbrite, detergent or thinner to clean it as it may damage the seashell.
‧It is sensitive to chemicals, never put Seashell under strong sunlight for a long period of time. These chemical may cause marks, desolve, crack...etc.
‧ It is very strong and stands against water up to 40 meters deep.

26. How can I apply lubricant to the water sealing gasket?

‧Follow the manual, take out the O-ring. Flush with water. Apply lubricant evenly on the O-ring and clean the o-ring grove in the housing before you put the O-ring back.
‧Avoid any dirt or sand on the O-ring
‧After one-year use, you may need to put some lubricant at the spring of the shutter and on/off button.
‧Press the Shutter Button all the way down. Use a toothpick and apply a little lubricant to the button shaft at the junction of the housing. Press the button a few times and the lubricant will be transferred to the little O-ring inside the press button mechanism.
‧Repeat the same procedure for the On/Off button.

27. Will the housing be easily scratched?
‧Although it is made of very tough engineering plastic (eg Polycarbonate) it can be scratched, like CD, DVD.
‧It will not affect the function of Seashell or the sealing performance, only the outlook.

28. What is the O-ring made of?

‧The O-ring is made of high quality synthetic rubber.
‧It has a long term elasticity and is chemical resistant.
‧It requires maintenance e.g. lubrication before every use.
‧Do not close the camera while not using it as it may deform if it is being compressed for long period of time.
‧Soft material does damage. Do not use sharp tool, nail, screw driver to handle the O-ring.
‧If you see cracks, remove it at once and install a new O-ring. Contact the Seashell customer center.

29. How often do I need to put lubricant on the O-ring?

‧We suggest to put lubricant on the O-ring every time before using the Seashell.
‧Apply a very thin layer of lubricant along the O-ring with two fingers. You don’t need to apply lubricant directly to the O-ring grove in the rear housing or the front housing.
‧Do not use any other lubricant or grease from other source as it may damage the O-ring
‧Vasline is a kind of mineral oil. It will damage both the O-ring and the housing.
